Entryway 101: A Case for the Most Overlooked Space in the Home

I have found the entryway to be one of the most overlooked spaces in the home.  It's often used as the universal dumping ground for purses, bags, shoes, keys, mail, and anything else we find ourselves juggling when we walk thru the door.  With little organization and a typically tight space, the entryway is usually a cluttered eye sore that does not properly serve it's purpose.

The entryway is an amazing opportunity to create a little jewel of a space that functions as beautifully as it looks.  This is the first space you or anyone will see when entering your home, it's the style gateway from the outside to the inside, so let's make it count!

Below you will see the creation of my personal entryway space piece by piece. We started with an amazing (no longer available) table from Anthropologie.  There are some fabulous alternatives at West Elm for under $500.  Next were the books and art.  I happen to have an existing collection of colorful coffee table books and original art, but lucky for you these items are super easy to acquire. Check out stores like Barnes and Noble for a huge selection of coffee table books in all price ranges, and Society 6 or One Kings Lane for an equally huge selection of amazing art.  Atop the books we added an adorable and super affordable table lamp and shade from Cost Plus World Market .  The beautiful starburst bowl from Target accents the gold of the lamp base perfectly.  And since we believe there is no such thing as too much sparkle, we added the amazing bedazzled lip phone that was picked up from Amazon.  Those super cool foo dog bookends are an older purchase from CB2, who is still making some amazing, and of course affordable, animal bookends.  The rest of the accessories pictured were all found at estate sales and flea markets for dirt cheap prices.  We truly believe that a look is most complete when it features both old and new pieces!

Quick tip:  A lot of the items used are no longer available because we tend to purchase a lot on sale, we highly recommend scavenging the sale section to see what chic pieces you can find at the lowest possible prices.
