It may have been a 90 degree Thanksgiving in Malibu, but we still lit the fire like it was chilly out.
This Thanksgiving we wanted to create a completely different look from our more subdued setting last year. To us, the opposite of that more rustic subdued look is a bright, colorful, and fun table. We used rich jewel tones, patterns, and lots of colorful florals to bring this concept to life.
Take a closer look at our tablescape below, and find out where to buy all of the cheap and chic goodies we incorporated!
The real star of the table is the incredible floral centerpiece. To create this huge statement we used 6 different clear glass vases and pushed them all together to create a seamless look. 3 larger vases make up the center, and 3 smaller vases create the perimeter. We had all the vases, but if you're looking to buy some great simple ones of your own check out CB2.
All of these florals were purchased from the LA Flower Mart. We highly recommend looking up your local flower district, and shopping there. You'll get beautiful blooms for a fraction of the price.
To make your centerpiece pop, be sure to purchase florals of all different textures, shapes, and sizes. The differing sizes and textures create more visual interest, and really give you that professional florist feel.
Quick Tip: Pay with cash at the flower mart to score even lower prices
Playing the supporting roles in this tablescape are the place settings.
The plates, silver, and napkins were all existing family heirlooms. If you're looking for that same antique eclectic look we recommend checking out Fish Eddy and Anthropologie.
The fun floral runner we used is actually a tablecloth folded in half from World Market. At the time of purchase a runner was not available, but we found a very similar one currently available at World Market that you can purchase.
We also purchased the glassware at World Market. We snagged both the goblets and the glasses on sale.
Quick Tip: Make sure to balance your patterns and colors. Our patterns are used in the florals, and on the runner. We made sure to have everything else solid as to not overwhelm.
The simple candles are also from World Market (can you tell we're obsessed yet). World Market has a wide selection of well priced candles in all colors, and sizes. We highly recommend.
A very critical part of designing a successful tablescape is to use different levels.
Notice all the different levels used on the table. Some of florals, and candelabras make up the top level. The rest of the florals and the goblets make up a middle level. The glasses are another middle level, and the silverware, napkins, runner and plates make up the lowest level. Levels give your table more texture, and create a more inviting feel.
Overall, we aimed to create a bright, colorful, glam, inviting, and functional Thanksgiving table. This table was a big hit with all our family and friends, and we can't wait to design for next year!
